About

the writer slash astronaut

I’ve had about as many careers as is possible, considering I majored in history: high tech research analyst, operating room consultant, math teacher, GMAT instructor, career guide writer, assistant travel editor. My friends think my next calling is as an astronaut, but I’m kind of partial to this gig, which enables me to travel to exotic places, stay in posh hotels, eat loads of amazing food, and then write about it. When I’m not traveling, I’m perfecting my gluten-free banana bread recipe, taking therapeutic shopping trips to Target (my new Whole Foods), and scooping up Charlie’s poop.*

the husband-cum-assistant editor

David is a former investment banker turned bean counter for the casino industry. He’s also earned the moniker assistant editor for his tireless vetting of everything I’ve ever written. He likes taking showers, long walks around the subdivision, and naming his electronic gadgets.

the dog

Charlie is a mutt we picked up from a shelter outside Baton Rouge. Part golden retriever, part bunny rabbit (he hops), he likes playing ice hockey (with ice cubes) in the kitchen, chewing on everything, and cuddling with his stuffed bear.

the site

I found Elizabeth Winheld via google and fell in love with her letterpress designs. We then bonded over our ex-New Yorker status and the fact that we were born on the same day, so she was a natural choice to bring me into the 21st century.

the location

Shreveport is located in the northwestern corner of Louisiana. It’s sort of close to Dallas, and about a five hour drive from New Orleans. The best part about living here is that it’s forced me to learn how to drive and given me reason to explore the South and ingest massive quantities of fried food along the way.
